Micro-credentials in Screen and Digital Media at York University
We provide deep, industry-driven education across multiple creative fields through courses designed in collaboration with working professionals and studios. Our program is built for flexibility and impact. Each course offers a standalone micro-credential designed for fast, focused upskilling.
What are micro-courses?
YorkU Screen Skills micro-courses offer short, focused training to build in-demand skills across film, TV, and digital production. Through hands-on, industry-aligned projects, you’ll gain practical experience you can apply right away. Many courses also ladder into full Screen Skills certificates.
What are micro-credentials?
Micro-credentials are digital proof of the skills and competencies you gain by completing a micro course.
They’re secure, verifiable, and fully digital; easy to share on LinkedIn, social media, or your website, and downloadable as PDFs. Micro-credentials offer a modern way to showcase your skills to colleagues, employers, and industry peers.
What areas of study are currently available?
Our current Fall offerings span three in-demand areas of screen and digital media production. These include:
– AI-Generated Content Workflows (AGC)
– Pipeline Management (PPM)
– Props and Environments in Houdini (PEH)
Each course is designed to reflect the tools, workflows, and expectations of professional studios and content creators.
What do I receive upon completion?
For each course you complete, you’ll earn a York University micro-credential—a verified, shareable badge recognizing your achievement in a specialized skill set.
Do I need prior experience?
AI content creation and project management tracks are open to a wide range of learners.
Each course includes guidance to help ensure you’re set up for success.
Are the courses online or in-person?
Courses are delivered in a mix of online live sessions, in-person, and hands-on lab work, depending on the subject. Please refer to each course listing for delivery format and dates.
Who teaches these courses?
Courses are taught by industry professionals and experienced educators who work in animation, VFX, screenwriting, game development, and real-time production. Many instructors bring experience from studios such as Pixar, Ubisoft, ILM, Framestore, and Netflix.
How much do the courses cost?
Tuition ranges from $500 to $2,000 CAD per course.
We’ve priced these competitively compared to similar micro-credentials across Ontario and Canada.
What is the currency?
Our prices are in Canadian (CAD) dollars.
Will I have a portfolio project at the end?
Yes. Every course includes one or more portfolio-ready projects tailored to the skill area.
You’ll receive feedback from instructors and peers, along with guidance on how to present your work professionally.
